AID FOR ANIMALS IN DISTRESS

Aid for Animals in Distress is a non-profit organisation that brings veterinary care to animals in need.

AAID visits poorer areas, such as townships, to bring much-needed veterinary care to those who may not be able to care for their animals, sometimes through ignorance- which AAID tries to reduce through basic instruction in animal care- sometimes through a lack of money.

Services include sterilization, inoculation, de-worming, treatment of sick animals, dipping. Beds and collars are given out. All services and products are provided free of charge. Funding is raised through donations, and monthly contributions of members. Anybody is welcome to join!.....or make a donation if you can.

More detailed information and statistics are available on the AAID website, at http://www.animalaid.org.za

Artists 4 Amputees is a NGO that collects funds for prosthesis for less fortunate children. We have raffles, auctions, art sales and special projects.

We have benefactors that supply us with art, gallery space, equipment, prosthetics parts and services and as with any charity we can always do with more, because every little bit helps. We gladly advertise our benefactors as well as give percentages of sales back to our starving artists. Feel free to contact us with any contribution you can make (no matter how small).
Donald was our first patient and inspiration, he was amputated at the age of 11 years at the Johannesburg General hospital

We work with a surgeon that uses the IPOP method (Immediate Post Operative Prosthesis) which is an excellent tool to get the patient up and going as soon as possible. It is recommended to have such a patient fitted with a prosthesis within a month of the operation.
Donald showed such amazing promise and optimism as well as excitement on the prospect of walking on his new leg painlessly that it felt cruel to leave him to the mercy of the government where he would be only receiving a leg much later. It is also very important to keep cancer patients optimistic and on the move as not to go into remission, as they have also found traces of the cancer in his lungs, we found it very important to get him walking as soon as possible!
Some friends came together and decided to start the ‘Artists for amputees’ non-profit association. Artists, like Stefan Hofmeyr, Jolene Boshoff and Ester Grobler, have donated paintings to be raffled off for money to pay for the prostheses. We have also been very lucky to have Roger Wolfson (prosthetist) helping with the fabrication and Prosthetic Solutions in George who are accommodating us with the components we needed to make the leg.
